Australian Thermal Imaging and Pyro Cable
Australian Thermal Imaging performs thermal scans on older buildings, particularly thermal scanning in Sydney. While thermal imaging older buildings, we encounter 'Pyro' or 'MIMS' cable.
Pyro is a mineral insulated copper clad cable, which present excellent fire resistance characteristics.
Pyro Terminations
While performing thermal imaging we encounter a disproportionate amount of hot joints or loose terminations. These are sometimes difficult to assess in terms of absolute heat measurement. The joints have low emissivity being entirely open to the air with little or no plastic (organic material) insulation.
Australian Thermal Imaging can easily overcome these limitations. Initial diagnosis on the following thermal imaging scan was to re-terminate the glands. Infrascan overcame low emissivity issues and a re-crimp was all that was necessary.
Re-glanding of Pyro cables is expensive and complex, as the cable must be cut back substantially and re-glanded to prevent moisture ingression.
